Quitters never win, and winners never quit… except when it comes to smoking. If you are a smoker then you probably know how hard it is to quit your nicotine habit. However, did you know that the rewarding effects of quitting actually starts after just twenty minutes? This is what happens when you decide to quit smoking.

After just twenty minutes after your last cigarette, your heart rate will go back down to normal and your sensations will start to come back to your hands and legs.

Since carbon monoxide is released from burning tobacco, a smoker usually inhales the toxic gas as part of cigarette smoke. This can cause serious cardiovascular problems. In just eight hours after you kick the habit, the carbon monoxide in your body decreases and your blood oxygen levels increase to normal.

If you manage to stay away from a cigarette for two days your ‘deadened’ senses revive. Things like smell and taste become more obvious. Your nerve endings will re-grow and your ability to smell and taste will be enhanced.

After about two weeks after you quit you will start to perform better when it comes to physical activity. You won’t feel as tired or as sick since your lungs are a lot clearer than it was before.

If you managed to stay away from cigarettes for a whole year then congratulations! Your chances of getting heart disease gets cut in half.
